Merlin made his European Cup debut in 2014. In 2015, he distinguished himself at the FOJE by winning two gold medals, individual and team. In 2017, he took fifth place at the Junior World Championships in Klinovec (Czech Republic) and achieved his first top 10 finish in the World Cup in Montafon before reaching his first podium in Cervinia in 2019.
In 2021, he placed seventh at the World Championships in Idre Fjäll and finished third in the overall World Cup standings.
A two-time Olympian, he placed 17th in PyeongChang in 2018 and 5th in Beijing in 2022, and was a torchbearer for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games in Chamonix.
With five World Cup podium finishes to his name, Merlin Surget has been selected for his third Olympic Games in Milan-Cortina 2026.
